We convey our condolences to the friendly people and Government of Nepal on the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake. We sadly learned that death toll have risen to more than five thousand. Everybody is concerned that the number of casualties may further increase dramatically as information is collected.

We thank OCHA for organizing this timely meeting and launching the flash appeal. We wish all the success to those actors who will implement the programs on the ground.

Turkish authorities and the NGOs rushed to respond to this massive disaster. Turkish Search and Rescue (SAR) Teams and Humanitarian Personnel from AFAD, Ministry of Health, Turkish Red Crescent and Turkish NGOs (totally 93 people) arrived in Kathmandu and began their operations in coordination with national and international actors.

Turkish NGOs and SAR Teams are one of first responders to disaster on the ground. While experienced SAR workers look for a sign of life amongst the ruins of collapsed apartment blocks, NGOs started delivering food and hygiene kits to survivors.

Furthermore, Turkish Red Crescent sent 1000 blankets and 320 food parcels to the people in need. We plan another airlift today, which will be carrying 10 tons of medical supplies, food and hygiene kits.

We aim to continue in-kind assistance by local procurement either from Kathmandu or neighboring countries.

Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal affected by the terrible loss of life and widespread damage caused by the earthquake. Turkey as a disaster prone country will continue to support the people of Nepal in the weeks and months ahead.
